To Catalinamoon...simply amazing that we came up with poems on the same subject so close together.  GMTA (Great Minds Think Alike).  Enjoy.

The Friend

I sat there in the barroom,
My mind off somewhere far.
She drifted in on a heat blast,
And sat with me at the bar.

"There’s a heat wave out there, Darlin’,
Or don’t you watch TV?"
Well, it’s not near as hot, as what I got,
Going on inside of me.

"Oh, feeling a little fiesty?", said she,
And gave me a little wink.
"Well, I’ll sit here, you buy the beer,
And I’ll tell you what I think."

"I think that you’re just lonely,
And maybe you’ve felt pain.
‘Cause you ain’t sitting here drinkin’,
Just to get out of the rain."

"The only rain that’s fallen,
Is probably the tears in your eyes.
You’re tired of life, you hate the pain,
And you can’t live with the lies."

"So you hide away in this barroom,
And try to drink your troubles away.
But when you go home, the nightmares come,
So you’re back here every day."

"That isn’t the way to be livin’,
That isn’t the way to have fun.
You need to get out, breathe some air,
Take a long, long walk in the sun."

"This ain’t free advice I’m givin’,
‘Cause you know I’m a working girl too.
But business is slow, I’ve got nowhere to go,
So this is what I’m gonna do."

"Let’s get out of this smoky ole barroom,
You come back to my place with me.
We’ll sit on the couch and talk about life,
And I’ll fix us a cup of hot tea."

"You don’t have to live with those nightmares,
You don’t have to carry those scars.
You don’t have to waste your life away,
Sittin’ in smoky ole bars."

"My love will overcome it,
I’ll drive them right out of your head.
And I can work my magic,
Without taking you into my bed."

"We both know that I’m a hooker,
We both know what I do.
What you don’t know, but I’ll gladly show,
Is the secret to how to cure you."

"That secret is my friendship,
And my never tirin’ ear.
So talk till all the demons go ‘way,
I’ll be sittin’ right over here."

We talked on to the morning,
I cried and then she held me tight.
When I left in the sun, looking forward to fun,
I no longer feared the night.

Amazing, the power of friendship,
And some unlikely sources we find.
Because of a kind hearted hooker,
I’ve finally found my peace of mind.

Marvin, what a happy story. And of course GMTA, we already knew that. Also an interesting and well conceived poem, of course. And the power of friendship is strong indeed, even offered by someone you may never see again.
Peace and Love always..

wow...there were so many phrases in here I  thought about deeply..although it is me feeling this

"The only rain that’s fallen,
Is probably the tears in your eyes.
You’re tired of life, you hate the pain,
And you can’t live with the lies."

but   someone else doing this

"So you hide away in this barroom,
And try to drink your troubles away.
But when you go home, the nightmares come,
So you’re back here every day."

and I can't make the two iron themselves out...

sighing I did like the idea of friends..and I was told once to never turn my back on someone  who  may want to be  a friend as you never know if that will be the "friend for life"

~~soft thanks for a wonderful story

WOW Marv!! That was a great poem/story.

The glory of friendhship
The memories in sight
Love is in the air
No matter how we fight

Look high into the sky
And wish upon that star
Your wishes may be granted
Developing love from afar

Peace
DkW

Once there was a darkness
Deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had
Ahhhhhh you gave me light

Wonderfully written/conceived poem/story, my friend.  Well done, indeed.

What a great, well written "story".  It fascinates me as to the many guises friendship can take, and saddens me that so many "friends" remain strangers because we don't let them in.  Nice work.  Linda

Marvin,
wouldn't it be nice if that happened?
If you ever write a poem that is less than astounding I will eat a broom!

Marvin, This is top shelf poetry. Kinda reminded me of a hooker I once knew. Who talked more than she worked and she still made a fortune. Oh yes and tea was her drink.

Great stuff.

first this just shows you can't judge a book by its cover...and its nice to find poeple who'll listen to you ramble on about how life is treating you and help you feel better...great job...i really, really liked this one.

This is the best poem I have ever read in my whole life. For reals. Great job.

I'm sitting here having read only two of your poems and I must say that I am completely in awe of your talent.  You have a wonderful way with the language that conveys emotion, plot, and opinion while entertaining the reader.  Simply masturful.
