Come Gently Down

Come down, my friend, come gently down
To settle on the flower
And place wet beads upon the blade
And moisten draping bower
Step tiptoe light on misty feet
In silence, if you will
While falling to the morning earth,
For my love’s sleeping still

Reach out, my friend, to pointed rays
Embrace the rising light
Consume the warmth assigned each leaf
That spins toward sun’s delight
Unwrap each flaunting petal wing
Bathe each in fragrant balm
But don’t allow the perfume stir
His most exquisite calm

Please let my love rest peacefully
Still draped in midnight’s fold
Do not allow your flaming beams
Disturb his dreams of gold
Then radiate in measure, friend
Shine prisms through the glass
But don’t cast rainbows on his face
Or in his darkness pass

Sing out your morning hymn, my friend
But trill more quietly
Do not disturb his slumber from
Atop the dogwood tree
Restrain the wondrous thrusting beak
From turning lullabies
To pleasing strains, that pulse aware
Into his dreaming eyes

The morning dew falls tenderly
On taffeta of rose
As though it hears a lover’s plea
And somehow kindly knows
‘Tis I who want to wake him
With a tender loving kiss
Before the sounds of warbling
Through the silent falling mist

Nature's poetry, there to see each day but sadly missed by those who rush in every which way.
This was a pleasure to read!

Oh Wonderful, Beautiful, Breathtaking!!!!!
Absolutley loved it Elizabeth. You have my vote!

Yes, I am here, but I am dead, not alive,
my body goes on, my spirit has died,
and I though alive, feel dead inside.
