Beyond the Garden's Edge If you should ever wander forth Beyond the garden’s edge And leave this place of bounty love Where we have laid our heads Then I shall never wish to breathe The perfume of a rose Nor gather blossoms for my eyes Nor worship joy’s repose For life would vanish if you left This nest of Eden home This space profuse with radiant hues Below God’s azure dome Without your love, I’d never more Recline in petal's soft To study midnight canopies Of planets posed aloft If you should disappear one day Beyond the primrose hedge For want of just one wishful step Outside the garden’s edge I’d never care to turn an ear To warbler’s lullaby Nor would I raise my eyes again To wonders of the sky I’d never visit with a star Except to ask it why Elizabeth Santos |

Oh Elizabeth, how I love this, it leaves me speechless. Voted! Yes, I am here, but I am dead, not alive, my body goes on, my spirit has died, and I though alive, feel dead inside. "Rose Petal" |

This has to be one of the most eloquent statements about the importance of faithfulness that I have heard. (God I can't be wrong about that can I??) A very flowery speech! Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito. - Virgil. "Yield thou not to adversity, but press on the more bravely". |

Ah, yes, this is one of my favorites, Elizabeth! I just love it! I also think that you should submit your 'Kentucky' poems for the book...among the first you ever posted at Passions...they still run through my mind from time to time. They are so beautiful. I'd love to see them in the book! Denise |

Elizabeth~ Surely you know how much I like this one - your phrase 'beyond the primrose hedge' gave me inspiration to write one using that for the title. I love it ! Thank you for sharing such inspiring thoughts. You are WONDERFUL ! ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |

Dearest Liz; This magnificent poem was wrenched from the depths of your heart and I felt, rather than read each word. I'm feeling the pain, in my own small way, and the wonder of how you turn the pain into so much beauty, can only come from God! Love, ellie Summers haunting melody that awakens the butterflies, calling them to join the dance in their silent song of praise to God. eL |
