Alone Again

Once again the sun has risen, yet I am comforted not by it's offer of abundant warmth. Frozen within this cloak of suffocating darkness I find myself once more. The ever so brief glimmer of hope, which was so cruelly and tantalizingly held before me drowned, like all those before.

The cold  winds of winter despair, descend upon  the spring of my renewal, stripping away my happiness, leaving me  raw and bleeding, broken, naked, humiliated and hopelessly destroyed.

From within the tortured remains of my heart are squeezed the last drops of hope, their taste immediately familiar, as in the form of tears they pause upon my lips, before continuing their journey slowly down my face.

Loving one so deeply has condemned me to a life in which none is returned, as the one who is loved loves me not in turn. The absolute abyss, love in a vacuum, trapped and isolated, unwanted and unfulfilled.

Memories that torture come unbidden, cruel reminders of what once more might have been, and shall never be again. They leave me as they find me; alone and cold, shivering within the envelope of darkness that has become the dwelling of my destitution. Lonely and hurting, hungry and afraid.
Alone.
So alone.
Always so lonely and alone.

I meant to include a brief forward to this.

Imagine if you will, getting back the your love of 15 years after 2 years apart, but only briefly, then "alone again"

One thing for sure, very picturesque piece. < !signature-->

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Ahh, a fellow writer who shares my love of commas!   I might suggest that they be weeded out a bit, but stil this piece stands well!

Your private memorial enshrines the love, hope, and past within your heart and soul for all time. Your body feels cold and empty as you long for what once was. But you have changed within and you have shed your old shell. The giving up of your old shell allows you to grow. The growth feels  uncomfortable but it is during this time that you have discovered new parts of yourself. It is the building of new strength now afforded to you. Afraid yes of the unknown and untested. Standing as one half empty or is half full? Alone and lonely is the vacuum when the heart is locked but once open hope and love will blossom like a seed when kissed by the sun. A key is waiting to unlock the heart. One just has to turn the key and let the light shine in. Hugss <**>

Yes I can imagine this scenario, rather I should say remember, and your poem is exactly what it feels like - "Alone" This is a feeling that President's experience at times, or people with terminal illnesses, or, those in a situation you describe. It makes no difference what goes on around you, you are still alone, and you capture the feeling so well. Bravo on this poem

I know the feeling of "alone" very well, even when I am surrounded by family and friends.  What a way with words you have, this has my vote, a bittersweet read that reminded me almost of myself at times

Take care,

Hi Jamie. You really DO know how I feel, don't you ? I'm... I can't tell you...it's just like what Jeffrey Carter wrote to me in that he never would wish the misery that he felt when he lost his best friend would be something that anyone else would know. It makes me feel...well my Heart goes out to you. I hope that you find or have found someone that would always stick by you, no matter what. You hang in there too my friend.

      Peace to you Jamie, Geoff

P.S.And Yes, before I forget, of course Jamie, it goes without saying, as always your work here is from the Heart and is outstanding.
