The PretenderThe handsome woman falls from love again as, low, the shadows marr her moistened cheek His words have fraught her well of inking pen This morning's sonnet song she cannot speak And though she knows there will be many tears She shall not love another in this way for words cannot, in darkness, reappear and syllables, sweet, cannot her heart display So on she moves about her charming life tearstained behind a mask of sweetest silk Beside her lies her cold and sharpest knife Her cup is full but tastes of bitter milk And in the dim and dark'ning hours of night she lies between the supple solemn lace and yearns for words, his lanterns glowing bright to come and lift the mask from off her face Claire |

This is a beautiful poem, Clare. Yes, most of us hide behind a mask, and we all wish for that special person who will take it from us. You describe it well. Words are sometimes not enough to say Words are sometimes don't come easy my way Words is all I have for you Your poetry so beautiful and your heart so true Sometimes we miss something so terribly Sometimes a word can make things better so easily Well done L.a.S.P. always and forever The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools. |

Claire~ Your work is so beautiful. It's so good to see you among us again. (I was always peeking into the archives for you anyway !) Lovely piece, my friend. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |

Exquisitely beautiful...i too, believe we all hide behind masks..is it fear of others seeing the real us, or is it the fear of us seeing the real us?.. |

You folks are just so kind...thank you for reading my work, and for letting me know, oh so graciously, that you find it to your liking. You haven't any idea how much it means to me to be able to share in this way. Thank you, in earnest... ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Vote! Yes, I admit your general rule. That every poet is a fool: But I myself may serve to show it. That every fool is not a poet. |
