1 Warmth of morning found mist on ground, Grass was dripping where mist caressed, Air was holding bound all the sound That the rising sun often makes, Another day begun. 2 Samuel horse waits his bag of grain, Cart and harness are put in place, Door are open we go again, Stop at the pump to get water, Then go plodding along. 3 First of our stops the chicken coop, Hens are waking chattering all, Gathering eggs with practiced stoop, Fill six cartons plus four more loose; Then go plodding along. 4 Mists burn away with the sun’s heat, Ruts of passage marking the road, We follow in four footed beat, To the dairy eggs become milk, Then go plodding along. 5 Slosh of milk in cans is singing, And he whistles a slow soft song, Dirt road follows the streams flowing, Smells greets milk to the bakery, Then go plodding along. 6 Noon too soon lunches on the go, Fresh bread, butter and cool water, Trailing puffs of dust that follow Wheels and hooves in the rising heat. Then go plodding along. 7 The quarry piles the stones by size, Only the smallest can he load, Samuel rests through the day’s heat rise By hand and sweat stone fills wagon; Then go plodding along. 8 Slow the pulling with heavy weight, The sun now sinks and air’s cooling, Wagon of stones turns through the gate, Heavy is light and day turns night; Then go plodding along. 9 Woods surround as road goes higher, Pausing for lighting the lantern, Gathering branches for fire, With the promise of home and barn, Then go plodding along. 10 The wagon returns to the start, Oats and a brush for Samuel’s work, Bits of gold is the other part, He pauses to say a prayer, Then go plodding along. Hi Prof.... I'm with Paula!! How many people can you fit in that wagon, anyway? Great writing, and it seemed so perfect for a Sunday, with it's peaceful cadence, and country scenes..... I want another ride!! Today is a gift.... That is why they call it 'the Present'! |

Thank you, serenity. Yes it is about work and routine, it developed out of a challenge on another board about forms of poetry, glad you enjoyed it. Thank you, Paula Finn, glad you liked the poetic ride. Thank you, Sunny1, In answer to your question, it depends on the condition and how friendly the people are to each other. I actually thought of it as a Monday Poem, but you may ride anytime any day; all you need do is read poetry. Gloom |

I enjoyed the detail of this piece, the rhythm, the repetition, the gentle way with which your words arranged themselves within the verses. So nice. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Thank you, ethome, so steady work bring slow steady rewards, I am rewarded for my work by your praise. Thank you, Meadowmuse, I do put thought in to the construction of the poem and it's structure, I am pleased at your notice. Gloom |
