Tornado by "Twister" was only a movie Just Hollywood and all their show A tornado is pure terror Because I've lived through one, I know At 3:12 in the afternoon Is when the clocks began to blink When terror from the skies was brought And it still scares me just to think I was in a convenience store It was windy and smelled of rain Speaking to a few of my friends And listening to them complain We were under a twister watch And I noticed the greenish hue That the sky seemed to have that day But I didn't know what to do It looked like that most every year And nothing ever came of it So I thought it just another day Until I saw the twister hit The sound was almost deafening I remained calm and held my breath I knew that any second I Just might be seeing my own death I heard cannons firing wildy And knew that it was breaking trees The blinding rain, the hail, the wind Enough to bring me to my knees So quick it came and then was gone I'd never known such fear before I went outside to have a look And saw destruction like a war To the left of the store a path Had been cleared of every tree For miles is what it seemed to go For as far as the eyes could see And then to the right of the store Another path, a horror scene I'll never forget that afternoon Or when I saw the sky turn green The store, untouched, was an island Much like a ship on storm-tossed seas Outside would have meant certain death I stood and gazed with shaking knees So many people lost their homes They lost their cars, their boats and such A nghtmare that does haunt them still But those were things that aren't worth much For the storm spared all of our lives With each, another day to see To watch our children as they grow And count new sunsets that will be |

Auguste... Excellent writing on this!!! I almost felt the wind, but glad I didn't. What a terrifying experience and I'm glad you're here to write about it! We have earthquakes in Alaska, but no tornados so far!! Great story here.... I have only one goal in life.. It Is: To have more than one goal in Life!! ~ ~ by Sunny ~ ~ |

"I'll never forget that afternoon Or when I saw the sky turn green" Michael, a very vivid account. In 1974 my hometown cowered under a green sky, and the tornadoes swept through mercilessly. You're so right...lives are what matter, but living through this monster can certainly change one's life. Excellent piece. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Jenn E and Lakewalker, Thank you for the comments. Yes, it was a pretty scary day, and night, for that matter. It was only an F2 or F3. I can't imagine what an F5 would be like and DON'T want to. Take care, Michael |
