The piercing sting of thorns, and pervading scent of satin petals. Some submursed in water, poised in bouquets, in the granduer of crystal. Blushing brides hold them in clusters, while prancing down hallowed isles. As handsome groomsmen stand in starched attention, with these poesies of crimson tucked neatly beneath their necks. Enhanced with the breath of babies, entwined and bundled with florists wire, they serve as tokens of passion, and source of the recipient's glee. And while they live, they are loved. But in time, their wilting begins, and the saviour to them, no water can be. Now these who once prettified banquet halls are dying away, Their withering has begun. And only a subtle scent prevails. These once fragrant blooms are kidnapped from the safety of pottery. As their crumbling leaves fall, their scarlett petals no longer vivid. And ashen and dead they lay, their beauty far spent. As forgotten among rubbish and debris, lay somebody's roses. [This message has been edited by Mona Lisa (edited 08-05-2000).] |
