~The Things They Cant See~

She has everything I want and she's all I'll never be,
and she takes it all for granted while I stand jaded in my envy.

What makes her so blind, there is so much of you she cant see,
I'd die to know this subtle sensuality and to make your discoveries.

I see your situation and the place she keeps you in,
in this game of pain ... neither heart will win.

Don't misunderstand me ... you don't have to explain or confess,
I understand completely ... you see I'm living in the same distress.

But I'm not without compassion, I have been in her place,
sometimes shadows follow us, memories time cant erase.

Still I find my consolation in the losses of her circumstance,
loneliness and longing creates the need for temporary romance.

Momentary distractions give brief comfort and aid,
I'm trying not to feel guilty ... they didn't keep the promises made.

You see in me ... what she cant see in you,
these things we have in common, are what divides lives in two.

The rule "we only want what we don't have" ... seems to be true,
all I want ... is for them to see in us -- all the things I see in you.

I know there are two sides to every story ... something to defend,
but all I ever wanted was a lover who would still be my friend.

She has everything I want, and she is all I'll never be ...
with the exception perhaps, of eyes that receive.

He was all I ever wanted ... yet he looks right thru me,
all my gains and losses are found in the things they cant see.

~Eyes That Cant See~

If I was blind ... the way you seem to be...
then I would be spared--seeing all that's dying right in front of me.
Were there any witnesses ... were you notified...
did you even mourn -- when all my hope and desire died.
Your so oblivious...there are so many women living here inside of me.
Would you even realize...if I were to set any of them free.
Is it delusion that blinds ... every night lying here next to a stranger.
Somebody should explain...warn you of denials danger.
You wont give thanks--but you'll sure ask for favors.
When did love become a chore, when did it become such a labor.
Is there such a thing...as an innocent infidelity,
its only a distracting illusion...to comfort this dying reality.
What will it take for you to see--if I was bleeding out my eyes...
would you then understand...would you then hear my cries.

I wish I was blind...
the way that you seem to be,
Then I wouldn't have to watch...this love dying deep inside of me.

Jan, you have me fumbling for words. WHat does one say to such powerful honesty. I know these poems are reposts but it does not stop me wanting to extent this big hug to you and try to say some words of support. As usual you have stolen my breath and my tongue with your words. Keep these masterpieces coming. If I see your muse I will make sure to have so words with her and return her to you.

Very sad, heartwrenching poems, Janet Marie. And very well written. Your muse probably ran off to the Bahamas for a few weeks with mine!

My dear JM---you have outdone yourself this time.  Your words haunt me and I share in your pain.  The way you express yourself is so complete and so you.  I hope that the time will come for you soon when every side of you is happy and free.  I admire your strength and even more yet, I admire your muse and the talent within.  It is no wonder she is on vacation

JM,

This is an incredible read, so full of angst yet gentled by the temporary thread of comfort shared. So much jumps out, yet this rings so very true as one who has been there as well

The rule "we only want what we don't have" ... seems to be true,
all I want ... is for them to see in us -- all the things I see in you.

I'm new to the forum and just picking out the words that appeal the most...yours are definitely on my list! Seeking more...

Good move Mark that is where this fine poet belongs.

Wonderful Janet.. I don't know what to say exactly...the mood is powerful from the heart as usual...you do that so well

You give your hand to me
and then you say hello
well I can hardly speak
my heart is beating so
and anyone can tell
you think you know me well
but you don't know me.

No you don't know the one
who dreams of you each night
who longs to kiss your lips
who longs to hold you tight
to you I'm just a friend
and that's all I've ever been
cause you don't know me.

For I never knew the art of making love
though my heart ached with love for you.
Afraid and shy I let my chance go by
The chance you might have loved me too...

You give your hand to me
and then you say goodbye
I see you walk away
with that lucky guy
to never never know
the one who loves you so
oh you don't know me....

E. Arnold.

Hi Butterfly Slippers!
I'm not your lover, but I'm glad to be in the "friend" category. THese two poems were subtle, gentle and beautiful -- so much so that the underlying bitterness is pretty much masked. I loved them; two of your best.

Janet, I am overwhelmed with these two poems, and can relate to both of them. Amazing how we seem to find so many others going through the life we thought was ours alone. It is very comforting to feel less alone in these feelings.
Thanks.
