Steps To Freedom I'm on a road, a path to my future Far ahead in the distance Just within sight, before it's veiled In misty and dreamy shadows I can see the path as it widens Becomes a smooth and trouble free road It's brightly lit, and easy to travel At my feet the path is dangerous It's narrow and winding, Shrouded in dark menacing shadows It's unstable, it's threatening One step in the wrong place Will send me crashing through Into deep dark pits of despair So I keep my eyes fixed ahead I don't look down at my feet Where the ground fools my sight With visions of hurt and pain Fix my sight on the light Cling to the light with my eyes The light that calls me, beckons me Urges me to follow, to run headlong To trust that the path will take me Bring me to a place where I belong My steps are unsure, uncertain Should I believe that my destiny My fate, can be reached by this path Will it all slip away from me I'm tentative, thinking that At almost any moment, my chances Will vanish, and I will be left Standing on shaking ground Will my freedom vanish Like a dream as I awake Or can I trust my fate Still I totter ever onward Hoping, preying that this time Just this once I won't fall I won't fail, I won't be a casualty Slowly as I move forward, one step At a time, moving carefully My steps become more sure My steps become more confident Certainty welling up inside me I feel strength returning Banishing the fear, Turning back the tremulous tears That seep from between my eyes Each step brings me nearer The path becomes broader, easier Lighter with every step Rainbows begin to form overhead Very soon I shall be able to run To leap and spring unfettered Into the light, the light that shines The light of hope, of life I'll no more be a prisoner of fear I'll be free to be whatever Whoever I can [This message has been edited by Marsha (edited 09-23-2000).] |

WOW!! The strength.........the vision.....This is so very true.........if we just focus on the light ahead and forget all the bad things that can distract us along the way we would all be ok. I am learning as I go,, as I think we all are. If we would just listen to our hearts and not to everything else I think in the long run we would all have a lot more happiness in this life....after all we are not around forever. Beautiful words here........ ![]() Jenn E |

Jenn E thank you for stopping by and reading, and thanks for your kind words. I wrote this for all of us who are on the path. To show us that ahead is a far better place than staying still. Follow the light, it will bring us once more into freedom. |

Butterflies dc yes I wrote it with my soul. Thank you for your support always, and for your so beautiful words that inspire me. In a land of poetic masters I am but a struggling apprentice, but I truly appreciate each and every comment. I hope my work is growing and getting better, and if it is it's because of all of my friends here. |

Maureen, yes love you're welcome to join me on the path. Far too often we ignore our feelings and wants, because we don't want to make a fuss. Or we think ourselves unworthy for wanting something more. The first step to freedom is opening our eyes to see what is keeping us a prisoner, and then facing the fear. We may find that it isn't as fearful as we first thought. Take care Marsha |
