The First of Fall---a Birthday Dawn

Fall woke me before first light
dripping from the eves
whispering through the window
in a breeze that cooled summer’s
hot sheets of cotton,
sheets thrown and crumpled
with the heady scent of jasmine
on naked body’s heated dreams.

It breathed the comforter in to place
and the satin gown
that touched skin with wealth
of memories from the drawer
where it lay waiting with this warm
smelling of sachet.

Out in the pewter of light
glazed and seeping life awakens,
the hummingbirds still twit
around the Mimosa tree
but the sunflowers are falling
and the tomatoes no longer taste as sweet.
Just a hint of color has begun
to touch the liquid amber with the dew,
it touches me as well,
runs down the canyons and valleys
of the creases that time has eroded.

On this day five years ago
I swam naked at dawn
and thought a day could never see
such beautiful becoming,
but I was wrong
for the gray of today’s sky
has been in my longing
since I watched the waves crash into shore
and tasted the air like water
refreshing this drought of life.

I think I will write my name
on the slate of sky because,
it is a good day to be alive, yes!

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.
(ee cummings)

So you swim that way and you sleep that way....ANY MORE VISUALS YOU CARE TO GIVE US SINGLE GUYS TO MAKE US SWEAT???????  jjjjeeeeezzzzzz you gotta have a little heart!!!!!!

All teasing aside my "BEAUTIFUL" friend, this
is so much the kind of day that I would wish for you on your birthday and I am so elated to be sharing it with you.(even if I now need to take a "cold" dip) Your pen is as wonderful as your heart and you kiss us with so many gentle breezes in all you write.  I will forever cherish you and your friendship.

hugs and a birthday kiss on you cheek as well

No Birthday Lady has written such words
To turn me around and see the birds
No poet in here has penned such phrases
Consistently to win all my praises

More to the point when I'm insecure
It's your responses that are my cure
So when I write it's to your words I look
Such great metaphors, could fill a book

And since it's your birthday
And so dreary, not a swim day
No flowers nor cake can I lay on your table
The distance too great, it's not I'm unable

I'll send this tweety bird to you
And hope he turns your sky to blue

suthern--I'm glad that I could remind you of how wonderful life is!

Mark--I almost went back and deleted the naked stuff...but then decided not to...afterall it's my birthday and I CAN wear my birthday suit if I want to.  And by the way, your sweet comments are a treasure.
Hugs to you, my friend.

Bill--Tweety has given me such a smile
that the sun came out for a little while.
Thank you, my friend for such a wonderful verse...You make me blush with so much praise, but mostly smile.

Elizabeth--Thank you for your sweet words...

On your birthday as almost every day, I go to the archives to find me a lilac moment - this being one of my favorites, and I can actually see the flittering in your Mimosa tree. Happy Birthday Sweet Lady!
