THE EYES I feel them on me everywhere, Yet burn an incessant desire To run as fast as Time would dare This pitted soul to rise and sire From all the Darkness around me - From voices past and shadows, grim - A likeness to ‘er confound me, That I should not be more like Him! Yet still they follow - follow me To peel this soul from rotting skin... ...As if, per chance, they cannot see The prices I've paid for "their" sin; This cross I've borne to no witness, The vestige of a man, once proud. ...As if self-declared unfitness, Would proffer me a martyr's shroud. But, oh, the woe they yet imbue Upon me with indolent stare, To suffer me what they hold true That I should wince, thus prove them fair And just, their accusation firm. No sovereign penance save the name Nor bleed this guilt, I'll serve my term, If mere reflection of their shame. Michael Anderson [This message has been edited by Michael (edited 09-23-2000).] |

Wow Michael....this is an excellent piece with much emotion and an onslaught of power. Loved the last two stanzas especially. Yet still they follow - follow me To peel this soul from rotting skin... ...As if, per chance, they cannot see The prices I've paid for "their" sin; This cross I've beared to no witness, The vestige of a man, once proud. ...As if self-declared unfitness, Would proffer me a martyr's shroud. But, oh, the woe they yet imbue Upon me with indolent stare, To suffer me what they hold true That I should wince, thus prove them fair And just, their accusation firm. No sovereign penance save the name Nor bleed this guilt, I'll serve my term, If mere reflection of their shame. Michael Anderson |

NO ONE else bleeds poetically like this.. no one else could ... and you already know how deep the emotions in this one cuts and touches me... once again in ways only your words do give it back to them M, ... it was their pain and shame in the first place... take care gifted poet jm |

You express your darkness so eloquently, my love ... beautifully and hauntingly written. "The vestige of a man, once proud. ...As if self-declared unfitness, Would proffer me a martyr's shroud" Love you --Me YOUR LIFE IS A TEST It is only a test ... If this were your Actual Life, you would have been given better instructions! |
