A Mellowed Mariner When I was a young man, many years ago, I ventured into the Gulf of Mexico While making a living by going to sea It was hard on me, and my family I got caught up in a shrimping career And finally gave it up after up-teen years. I started a life some say was rough And sometimes it was mighty tough Some things I’ve seen would knock off your socks Now that I’m older, I’m still around boats and docks I am now land-based, a new life for me But never too far from the sea. But, I saw rainbows from horizon to horizon I’ve also seen sunsets and the colorful sun rising I’ve seen the sea calm with no commotion I’ve also seen the sea raging upon the ocean I’ve seen the waters clear, blue and still I’ve also seen how it can kill. So HE arranged that I leave the sea, But, I am grateful for all the memories. |

You seemed to be on the sea alot I wonder if you ever saw a mermaid. I hear the longer a sailor is gone the more strange tails they tell! I did enjoy your poem! |

I have to give you alot of credit, I can only be out on the ocean for a couple of hours before my body turns to jello! I prefer to watch from the shore! Thanks for the ride! |
