For a Second I Forget |

Sometimes while I'm doing dishes, I see a shadow out of the corner of my eye and for a moment I think it's you. But, of course, it's not. Often I sit at the kitchen table, with my chair facing the front door, thinking any second you could walk through. But, alas, you don't. Many a time, while watching t.v., I grab the remote and quickly hit mute, for I think I hear you call from another room. But, then, I remember. Just last night I was listening to, the 6:00 news like we always do...did, and I turned as if to say..."Can you believe..." But, alone, I sat. It's been nearly a year, and I still sometimes forget you're gone, but they say I'll grow accustomed to the emptiness. Oh, but I hope they're wrong. For I enjoy those moments when I think I see you, hear you, feel you beside me. Though it's not part of the accepted way of healing, For a second, I forget I'm alone. |

YEOW! What a poem this is....and what a paradox you pose. Is it better to erase the memories and move on lonely or do we need a little time to pretend that nothing's changed and we're still together? Of course, the logic masters will say move on but they're not the ones sitting home alone. Old comfortable habits are hard to break. This is a very striking poem...... |

TennesseeAngel~ This is the softest touch of remembrance I've read in a long, long time. How very tenderly you've touched the feeling of knowing the perfect fit. I'd keep those memories ... for a long, long time. I really liked the softness of this, my friend. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Tennessee Angel, I'm glad I'm not alone in doing this, I'm not going mad. I have said too many times "I must ask Dad" then realising I can't. Thanks. Dee |

Balladeer -- Old habits are indeed hard to break...especially if you don't want to break them. This was written for a man in my church who lost his wife recently. They'd been married for 40 years. I think sometimes...it's okay to live in the past, if the present is too painful. Thanks for the thoughtful response. ![]() Marge -- Thank you for your gentle words of praise. I always love to see a response from you because they are always so sincere. This is a piece close to my heart and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Dee -- I'm glad it touched you. I think anyone who has lost a loved one finds themselves in the same situation. Thanks for your reply. ![]() Butterflies -- It's so great to be back. I've been reading your work since I've been back and you've done some really beautiful pieces. You're a wonderful poet as well as a wonderful person. ![]() --You can either take me as I am...or you can watch me as I go.-- [This message has been edited by Tennessee Angel (edited 09-20-2000).] |

This was so touching Tennessee Angel ... you've captured the true difficulties and mixed emotions we face in these sorrowful times. If memories bring happiness, I'm all for remembering ... beautifully expressed! ![]() Best wishes, /Kit |
