Listening to every heart

You wafted in on transistor radio
close to my ear, I heard you over the whine
whispering Cherry, Cherry in my ear
and later singing Red, Red Wine.

All of my friends were excited when
you sang Sweet Caroline on the radio
because if one didn’t catch it all
it sounded like my name, you know.

And when you came out with Holly Holy
I thought it was for me solely.
Then I wanted to travel along
when Brother Love broke out in song.

Cracklin’ Rosie was a mystery to me
but I liked the lyrics anyway.
And when the early 70’s came on by
I Am I Said put a beam in my eye.

I stumbled through life then, my story is true
and then you came out with Song Sung Blue,
and I thought I could make it through.
Because every garden has one.

But soon my life reverberated
with You Don’t Bring Me Flowers
and it was as if it illustrated
all of my life that had gone sour.

Love on the Rocks held me for awhile
Hello Again brought back my smile.
Then I met a wonderful man who made a Beautiful Noise
and tho not a Kentucky Woman, I gained some poise.

Surviving the Life swept me along
and I Thank the Lord for the Night Time
for my man can Walk on Water
and I’ll keep Longfellow Serenade as mine.

To Neil Diamond, and all of the songs he shared with the World.

Sunshine,
thank you for that post. I'd forgotten some of those. It was lovely.

Be well

Neil Diamond has always been one of my favorites for that special mood and thanks to your words I do believe that this moment is 100% perfect for me to take a break from poetry and go sit and listen under the stars.  A perfect ten in style, presentation, and heart.  You shine so well my friend.

Wonderful Karilea!  Another of my favorites also!!!  Excellent weave of the titles, really well done. I think "I Am, I Said" is my favorite ... I have that one on an old  45 (showing my age now)!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Kit, see message to Sven...we were too poor for us kids to have much in the way of records, so someday when I'm really really flush I'm going to purchase everything he ever made...[c'mon Voices, sell!!!]
