Back to school shopping, Saturday at the mall
Stopped to rest and leaned against the florist’s wall
Then I smelled the pure sweet summer smell
Roses and Jasmine  - I knew them both so well.

I closed my eyes and could see your face
Smiling at me in that long ago place
Though no longer young, our passion was real
You were the one who taught me to feel

Remembering now that summer of sin
Marriage forgotten, thoughts rushing in
We bathed in the light of tropical nights
Taking our pleasure in sweet love’s delights

I was flying home to tell him I must leave
Having finally found love, as you led me to believe
Then I found the note you had put in my purse
I read it quickly, then sighed with a curse

Jasmine blossoms floated from the page
You said we should remember to act our age
We weren’t young and foolish, you explained
Our affair was ended before I deplaned

I opened my mind, pushed those thoughts away
To remember the pain that I felt that day
Knowing life is not full of roses it seems
I must forget you and those Jasmine dreams.

This is the first time I have had the pleasure to read you.......and I am so glad I did. Memories...they do have a way of creeping in, usually when we least expect it.

Hi Poet deVine,
This is absolutely stunning, and I salute you on your masterpiece. I just loved it, and the smoothness with which it flowed. Lovely, just lovely.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Writing is hard when you have so many things going on in your life. I finally set aside some time for this poem. Hope to get back into the swing of things and read and reply more soon! Thanks.

Ooohhh. Pretty. Made me think of the song "Strawberry Wine" by Deanna Carter and I love that song. Guess that why I loved your poem so much. So nice to read your poetry again...

PoetdeVine~

I caught a whiff of those Jasmine-scented dreams ...
a bouquet of memories held in a special place.

Funny, the scents of life that beckon us to recall ...
I enjoyed the overall nostalgic memory-theme of this.

Start to finish it was wonderful! Beautiful beginning, and a sad ending. So true to life    Great job Sharon!
