Auguste's poem, "Why I Write Poetry" was so intriguing to me and brought up the question that we all must ponder once in a while. Why Do I write poetry? I do not write my poetry It oozes from my pen It flows through channels of the heart Back to the world again It’s not a verse that I’ve contrived Nor notions I’ve conceived But aesthetic songs of life's own grace In terms that I've believed It’s strings of sentimental dreams Of love that’s lost or won Of passion’s golden quest to reach Love’s treasure in the sun It’s eye’s perception of the world Poured through a prism sieve It’s soul’s expression of the life That it has dared to live It jumps upon the silver page Through keyboard’s own design Through fingertips so unaware The passages of time It’s rhythm is my own life’s essence Pulsing through the vein It’s lyric’s of a summer song Repeating life’s refrain It’s phrases joined by fragile threads And verses laced with truth And passion for existence And the innocence of youth It comes not from imagination Nor a muse’s wand It’s simply comes from deep within Life’s overflowing pond The spring-fed waters never cease They flow in times of drought Infinity flows gently Through the spirit’s tender spout If one day I should write a verse That slices through your soul Or brings to bear a tear of joy Or captivates your whole If you feel you have walked the selfsame Footsteps I have plod Please know the verse was written By the sacred quill of God Then why do I write poetry? I simply do not know As long blood runs through my veins I’ll let the waters flow Elizabeth Santos |

Liz, you've summed it up beautifully! I couldn't have done a better job! "If you feel you have walked the selfsame Footsteps I have plod Please know the verse was written By the sacred quill of God" So true these words! ~Hugs~ <*\\\>< Be an organ donor...give your heart to Jesus! |

Liz...oh yes this is why we write...not because we want to necessarily...it just happens...something you see something you hear and here come the words just pouring out. This is an amazing work of art. |

Liz--To read your poetry always touches me in one of the ways you have described...your grace of word comes from your grace of heart...this is a wonderful poem! |

Liz, That something I wrote was able to inspire you to create this truly lovely poem is enough in itself. I see so much beauty here so openly exposing the mind and heart of the poet, so eloquently describing why it is we write. Enjoy the day, my friend. Let us send this one around one more time. It's always interesting to see the different reasons that we as poets feel we must write. Proust- "Love is space and time measured by the heart" |

Captivating, Liz Truly inspired. Michael also inspired one for me when he wrote last post. It's more fitting for now so I'm posting it today. Really liked this poem. Kethry "It is the image in the mind that links us to lost treasures; but it is the loss that shapes the image, gathers the flowers weaves the garland."- |

so beautiful Elizabeth, It's so true, that there's a hunger that must be filled, It's something that opens are hearts, where we thought was never possible, opens many doors, that were shut, It revives our souls and minds. It's art that forms a picture in our minds. |
