(almost total rewriteof a early 99 poem) It's 6:15 AM as I approach Alone the Cooper river niched in time The sky only shows traces of light But there is enough in this clime The river's gone from black to silver As I turn east onto river road's brink The horizon spread before me Gains purples, violets, and pinks By degrees they're all reflected In the river, the gaslights shine On Park drive casting an orange light On asphalt, grass and walkway line I see the dipping heads of geese Plodding about the park lawn's meadow The car just seems to know the way - Like a horse headed for his stable Winding down the drive, jogging suits Iridescent reflecting headlights Stevie Nicks coming from the radio I'm not alone anymore as night's Dark cloak softens in morning light The car fades in a night of blue Work is not our call but a tryst This but adds to the sight of you It is that first night we parked Your hair in curlers, Toni scent Just two sharing, neither caring How we looked, our passion pent We knew we had to be working In just a few short hours. Then a wet kiss in my ear comes Goosebumps and shivers flower You're getting it back you know Was that the first you felt the glow? ~You have to have a dream so you can get up in the morning. ~ Billy Wilder |

Liz- I've stopped my regular traverse from DE to NJ five times weekly. The beginning always in early morning, but the images of the park drive were and still are some of the most beautiful and vivid - unsurpassed by the Seine and the Thames - and I can return anytime for the price of bridge fare Martie- The poem was created from two rivers - recently the 90's and originally the 60's but it worked so strongly for me I had to rework it. Thank you ~You have to have a dream so you can get up in the morning. ~ Billy Wilder |

Marsha - Truly not all memories are bad - the curler lady married another - but we truly enjoyed our time together -and I happily do not have her 6 children. thank you Mark - Life, to save our sanity - deals us memories we can hold - some very sweet. Thank you Paula- only fair I can return a poem as I enjoy yours so much. Doreen - More often than not - vividness is my trademark - I am glad you enjoyed. thanks |
