Midnight - Black Wolf (slight revision of a 1/99 post)
(This is inspired by another Robert Bateman Print. - Proudly hanging on my wall.)

Fading to black beyond
The edge of the meadow
Indigo head and torso
Invisible in the shadow

Standing sentinel still
Pine covered snow on the ground
In a cluster of birches
Silence reigns without sound

Looking like slender saplings
His light-colored forepaws
Unrecognizable
His teeth say he needs no claws

I don't know that I have any reply simply because I have no words into which I can place my feelings. I am sitting with an indulgent smirk, and cannot stop rereading...
the last line: fantastic.

(Reminds me of Brandonburg's photography.)

Wilfred~

You've surely captured the spirit of the wolf.
Sentinel of guardianship ...
he tends his vigil well.

Very nicely done.

I love wolves, as long as they're in pictures    You've certainly captured it!

They have a remarkable beauty, as does the words penned here!

Grand-

Now I've something else to look for - Thanks

Marge-

I strongly recommend - if you can - find a book of his prints and see this particular one at least I feel as though you've already seen it.

WhtDove-

I'm not sure I'd want to encounter a pack of these - least of all at midnight in wilderness - but they are quite beautiful
Thanks

Martie-

yes Majestic is a very good word - and the artist - better than I captures nature's camouflage  so well
thank you

Clair -

I think you too 'see' with my eyes - thank you so much for your supportive words
