he thinks he'd like her back
the laundry's gotten high
he's feeling a bit "lonely"
a bed on a couch in someone else's house
has lost its earlier appeal
he wants his bed
his woman
his dinner cooked
just-so
he knows she can do it
she has for thirteen years
a wife to perfection
that is
when he noticed she was there
for his life was a myriad of planning
alaska
patagonia
whatever
never planning
for her
for them

and now
in a feeble attempt
to wound her more
he lays the situation at her feet
saying it was all just a "test"
to see what she'd do
and she
lays awake long into the night
trying to understand the head-games
he plays
and wishing she didn't have to
anymore

Heather - It appears HE failed the "test."  Was it also a test for the boys?  I suspect he is becoming like a fish in his new digs... after three days his hosts are probably thinking of throwing him out.

You have a gentle and loving heart.  You are a fine person, and you have a good head on your shoulders.  Whatever you decide, Susan and I respect you for who you are, and we will be with you in spirit.

X, this is a wonderful true poem of a persons character. ....

Time to say test this buddy.... pow out the door...
Who gives a person the right to test another person?
head gamers are control artists, don't get caught up in it. It never ends, its just a way of avoiding being open and telling the truth....

Sorry if i'm ranting, hate to see headgames.

Headgames can become a valuable form of communication if sincerity becomes part of the conversation...he is wise and perhaps remorseful if he wants you back...take care....James

A test?  Hmm... ok...
I don't think there's much left to be said about the subject matter, so allow me to say that this is a very good and introspective piece.  It's not easy to look at a situation and convey it well, especially if the situation is personal.  You, however, seem to have done just that.

Heather~
Oh the head games that many play, not so nice are they.
This is so sad but so often played out, one day he'll get his (what goes around comes around) eventually.
Well written

This one screams (delicately and with class, of course *S*) pain and humiliation and confusion... I'd give this lout an F- on HIS exam... but great poem!

In my experience - Games that include ultimatums in the set of rules are games in which the players need to be prepared to call on a bluff and let the cards fall as they may.... There's invariably a winner and a loser - I know which you are...

Heather, do what you must. Yes, life is a series of tests ~ personal and spiritual ~ but certainly not inflicted upon one person by another. Take care, my friend.

Heather - Upon further thought, I think you hit the nail right on the head.  He is begging for a second chance, but he isn't ready to admit he was wrong.  At first thought, it seems that, until he gets past that point and begs your forgiveness, nothing will be resolved.  The real resolution, however, will not come until you really forgive him.  I suspect that is why so many relationships cannot be resurrected - it takes two sincere hearts to make the leap.  Good luck, fine lady.

Sometimes something happens to love, it gets smashed and beaten into submission until there is nothing left but an empty vacuum. Tis what has happened here I'm afraid LJA, and someday I will forgive him (working on it) but as for a resolving of a relationship between him and I, no. I can't go back to my life lived vicariously through someone else's wishes and desires.
*sigh*
It will get easier, it will!
Thanks all for replying, and putting up with my horrible ramblings.
