Peace (repost of a 2/99 poem - for a friend) A trace of gray mist Hangs over the water A stillness in the air Almost deafening Our feet crunch In the brown grassy stubble. Almost without sound I drop the canoe into the lake And we step in Hints of dawn Peak through the dark eastern sky A wisp of smoke curls From the cabin chimney behind us A few gray rocks stand Bulging from the water's edge Not enough light yet To color the forested shoreline Not enough light yet To color the inky black water Breaths floating past us As paddles slip from the water Paddles resting 'crost knees As the canoe slowly glides by Brown reed stalks Piercing the glassy surface Slight ripple from the bow Jiggling lily pads As we come to a complete stop Breath almost ceases The loon family proceeds Slowly by Sleek black pointed bills White stripped collars Dotted feathers Moving with slow dignity Past our stern A sunbeam shoots Through the pines A northern pike Jumps for a fly And splashes "Good Morning" ~Just as a sunbeam can't separate itself from the sun and a wave can't separate itself from the ocean; we can't separate ourselves from one another. We are all part of a vast sea of love one indivisible divine mind. ~ Marianne Williamson ~ wilfredyeats@hotmail.com [This message has been edited by Wilfred Yeats (edited 09-12-2000).] |

Outstanding imagery filled post. I am so glad I have been able to see this one and your friend is one lucky person to have a friend like you. |

You should be teaching poetry instead of computer science. This writing is superb, and yes, it does bring peace Liz |

Mark - Now that I've read some of your work -I must say - that compliments from you stand that much higher in my estimation as I consider your poetry most excellent - Thank you Martie- The locale is not so unique - but if you felt the 'peace' - I succeeded in saying what I wanted - Thank you Liz- I cannot tell you how good your words made me feel- I really don't think I am as good as you suggest - but the nice words were wonderful for my fragile ego. I'll tell my school - you think so - and see if I can add to my teaching assignments LOL - YOU on the other hand - SHOULD be teaching poetry - as I consider your work far superior to mine. |

yes Wilfred ... this has Canada written all over it ... great imagery ... makes me want to go back today ... nothing like a Northern breaking the surface on a still, cool Canadian lake ... thanks. |

MaMiller- Very perceptive of you - Although I've been to many wild and beautiful locales in the northern parts of the US from Washington to Maine - My vision was of Canada as I wrote and the crystal clear memories I retain of time spent on Perrault Lake in the Red Lake District east of Willipeg. Thank You ~S~ SEA- One needs to get close to nature with some regularity - lest they think God made Citys, smog, and concrete - Thank you. Sudhir- Thank you - so much - I'm glad you liked Green Eyes - Peace can be reached in many ways - but you know that ~S~ - thank you ~G~ |

Butterfies-- My memories are of my uncle and Indian guides - My dad had to work too many hours, too many days - for too litle money to afford wilderness trips - but I know he'd have been along if he could - Thank you ~S~ |
