I’m not so old you see. I can still feel the glorious wind in my hair as my colt thin thighs grasped the knot of the thick rope; and, with innocence, locked onto its hard-lumped safety, I kicked off the giant maple tree and flew free across the meadow, small fingers white-knuckled with gripping; turning, twisting, back, across, back, gasping breaths, kicking off the mighty limbs, for hours, all those wondrous sunny afternoons of childhood. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I still need to fly, and oh, how you give me wings! * * * * * * * * * I decided on my own, that perhaps I had been too outspoken in this poem, for this forum. I have edited it, but I still thank all of you, my friends, for your sweet comments! The spiritual wind that holds survivors aloft, plants the seeds from which bloom new hope ... R.J.G.
