Slouch On The Couch Thought this time I’d carve out words Beyond witty, to catch your eye To steal you away from that screen, That Coors and pastrami on rye. Perhaps I’d succeed in dragging you From beneath that greasy Ford She’s got more angles than curves Maybe it’s because you’ve gone bored. Could it be male menopause? Hormones run amuck, my dear? I quickly hurl this idea aside Inattention renewing my fear. You used to melt, reading my words Penned to elicit emotion, But bowling boys are beckoning Transformed into a middle-aged notion. So I’ll just write this to our cat At least he listens, he purrs As long as I pet him while I read Although even he demurs. © 2000 Corinne Bailey |

ICK! I don't think I could be with someone if they began to act this way. Nice poem, and the last stanza is my favorite. |

I can't speak for all men nor any woman obviously - but I do believe we all go thru cycles - I can remember when loving and closeness were paramount - and then in the nadir of the sine wave - things- (games- cars, bikes, etc) not people- had my attention - the wave has me back on its zenith -and i'm determined to stay there - no cat will rver need to be my surragate -- if ever I can wean her from her grandchildren now. all this blabber is not to say I don't totally agree with Marge - for I do ~S~ |
