state of confusion

With laden feet that could only plod
A face frozen in crumpled mummery,
He stooped (even lower) to shirk the sandy gale,
His body emitting foul gasses of seismic scale,
he coughed up brown spit, part dirt -
part blood and tar induced congestion,
it occurred that he’d become putrescent
he should think it a travesty,
but death has a way of rotting us.

He had been expecting this day,
but imagined the sun would be shining when
like the mainspring of an old pocket watch
he just wound down into dust.

"like the mainspring of an old pocket watch

great lines in here, corinne... as always... and hey! love that word i've just added to my vocabulary "putrescent"... i knew putrid... oh have i known putrid... LOL...just kidding... but seriously, didn't know that form of this word... i guess i was pre-putrescent or something...

thanks for a vivid, honest, well written verse.

Stunning piece Corrine, excellently written.

"I have penned epitaphs on snow, and written my legacy in dust." self quote.

Corinne - what a masterful poet you are!  It was easy to see that Death is not a pleasant visitor, but he's more than welcome when it is his time to call.
