               The Beast

I’ve fallen prey to the beast once again.
I fear this time I may die.
I tried to stay away from its unholy sin
And far from its deceptive lie.

But it reared up, showed its fangs
And took aim straight for my heart.
Its power can drive a madman sane
Or rip a sane man apart.

Further and further it sunk its teeth in,
Seems it will never let me go.
I think this pain will never end,
No mercy will it show.

It threw me into its dark pit of light.
Down, down, down I fall
Though I see I have no sight
It will be the end of us all.

I cried out to He who has all answers,
‘What ever shall I do?’
I would trade it for a thousand cancers.
Of this beast I wish I never knew.

Then a voice said,

“Child, your tormentor is not a beast,
You are looking at it all too wrong.
It is something of which you should feast
For it is much more beautiful than a song.

You say this time you may die.
Don’t worry this 'beast' won’t kill.
It’s truly the Law we hold most high
It is Love, Love under Will.”

Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats
