(just feeling a little tuneful this mornin')

The most beautiful girl in the world
Thinks she's homely
Thinks she's so-so
What does she know?
This most beautiful girl in the world..

The most beautiful woman I know
Thinks she's frumpy
Hates her posture
Why, I'm not sure
This most beautiful woman I know...

She
Has been blessed
With beauty some would die
To possess.
Her face would light right up in surprise
If she could see herself through my eyes..

The most beautiful girl in the world
Speaks politely
Smiles demurely
Loves me surely
And I pray
For the day
She'll be able to see
She's the greatest
Most beautiful
Girl in the world
To me.

What can I say...except Beautifully put.  It's been a while since I paid a visit to this haven of poetry and I'm glad to see that you are still sharing your words and thoughts.  It's amazing...somehow I feel like you're talking about me.  Thanks Balladeer.

Reminds me of when I picked up Mena the other night to go to her moms house and she said she didn't look so good because she wasn't wearing her makeup and I told her yes she did...I told her she is a beautiful woman...

Reminds me of a polynesian legend of a young man who was the most handsome and strong in his villiage.  He had his choice of any young woman in the villiage to be his bride and he picked one most considered to be the most homely.  His friends and family tried to dissuade him but he told them all to him she was the most beautiful and the one he loved.

Tradition in the villiage dictated that a newly-wed couple spend their first month together in isolation on the other side of the island.  An escort of tribal officials accompanied them there with enough supplies to last through the lengthy honey-moon.

When they returned to retrieve them the officials were astonished when they saw him with a beautiful young woman.. stunningly beautiful.  They asked him who she was and he told them it was his wife... when she spoke they realized who she was -- and asked how this could be..

The young groom replied -- for the last month she has only seen herself in my eyes..!

Nice one Balladeer..

Balladeer you old crooner you... this is one of the sweetest songs I've ever read. Would love to hear you sing it (or, well, maybe Harry Connick Jr.)

So sweet!

YOU picked a homely woman????? geez... i never would have believed it until i read this!!!!   LOL.... Michael, this is...a very sweet poem and very special and... YOU are very special...!!! A woman would have to be totally enraptured with you if you loved her so much to write this love song. One lucky lady, i'd say....

it's funny, i think many women feel this way about themselves at certain times and probably men, too... especially when the weight of the world is crashing in on them... but to have a man speak such lovely words to them in the midst of it all... well, that's the most beautiful thing there is! you are one sweet talking Poet!

(oh, but, you can tell me the truth... is she really frumpy??? hehe *wink*... no way!!! *g)

~ all you can really ever expect out of life is a good apology and some decent poetry ~

The most beautiful man in the world,
Writes so lovely,
Sings so sweetly,
And we love thee,
This most beautiful man in the world ...

Can you tell I loved this too?
The tune is still humming away,
Wonderful Balladeer!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Hey there, Michael - A great read because what it says is straight from the heart...  except Frannie is far from homely - she's a radiant flower, you lucky dawg.

Balladeer

Bravo --- Bravo ---  Bravo

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.  You have done a fine job here describing her beauty through your eyes.  You shouldn't love someone for their looks, but how they are deep down in the soul.

This is so sweet! We would probably all feel better about ourselves if we could truly see ourselves through the eyes of those who love us!

Thank you all for such supportive responses   Great parable, rebel...

Yes, we can be our own worst critics at times but even the homliest of us can achieve levels of great beauty when seen through the eyes of someone who loves us. We should never forget or question this fact

Oh, she will love this one, I know!!  A girl always loves a written thought of love from her man!!
I sang this one all the way through!!
