This poem was written after a painting by British painter, Frederic Leighton, titled "Cymon and Iphigenia" and written from the perspective of the male.

If you would like to see the painting, you may click HERE.

Perfect Pose

Glistening gold beneath your skin
as morning moors ascending light
'Twas glistening far before the sun
relinquished slumber to the night

I gazed upon your fragile form
and in that moment was transfixed
Awash, aware of beauty bathed
Desires and duty madly mixed

For dare disturb such perfect pose
or watch as you awaken, free
from dreaming's drama, undisclosed
to mortals, least the likes of me

Claire--I'm not sure about you being a mortal, seems like your poetry comes more from an angel.  This is lovely!!

Claire,

Being an artist, I can obviously relate well to this one and also the perfect pose.  Years ago I did a portrait such as you describe here and still have it to this day.  This is beautifully written and captures well what an artist sees and feels during portraiture.  This is beautiful, dear friend.

'neath canopy of forest green,
...in slumber I await,
Coming of the day anew,
...sun's kiss through heaven's gate,
I feel your presence standing watch,
...shepherd of the night,
Within my dreams, we lay as one,
...'til kiss of dawn's first light.

Martie, that's one of the sweetest things, I believe, that anyone has ever said to me. Thank you, my friend. I am pleased to know that you enjoyed reading this little poem.

Sudhir, (smiling) thank you...you are just so nice!

Local Rebel, I am often inspired by works of art and pieces of music, as well as events, emotions, memories, fantasy...you know, the usual.   Thanks for your sweet words.

Michael, thank you for the "beautifully," dear. Thank you for sharing your perception of this piece with me. I had a feeling you could relate to it.

Poutprincess, thank you for reading and taking time to let me know that you enjoyed this little piece. Your words are very kind.

Gemini, thank you so much...and your words have "painted" a smile for me.

Mike, beyond beautiful...thank you, my friend.

M.A., thank you. I enjoy the olde world style in writing and life in general. Thanks very much for reading this one.

JulieAnn, I'm so pleased to have left an impression with you through this poem, and I thank you, sincerely, for telling me. So many times we learn through just opening the senses, and can happen when we least expect it.

Blooming Rose, I thank you for letting me know you read and enjoyed my poem.
