Oh yes, those days when the two of you ran, ran and ran and ran, barefoot through the grass, your carefree laughter filling the air. Those days when those little hands covered your mouths as you got close enough to touch a butterfly, Those days when your eyes lit up and you gave a breathless gasp, when you heard, what you thought was, Santa's sleigh. Or when the biggest hurt you had, was a brushburn, or a bruise. The hands of time turned quickly, too quickly. Achievements were applauded, defeats consoled, But...that was then, life was easy...that was childhood. Mom and Dad were, like the police, there to serve and to protect. We are still there guys, we just can't kiss away those hurts anymore. But we can tell you, that it's up to you now, Hearts get broken, but honest, they will heal. Life, will go on and it WILL get better. The hurts of today, will be fleeting memories soon, and...Mom and Dad will still be there. But oh, how we long to be, back in the day..... I think this reflects very well what parents feel when they had to let go their children... my, that's what I'm afraid of, too (if I had children someday)... I imagine it quite hard to be confronted with the fact that your children now are able to completely take care of themselves... well, in the middle part, this is not a sad poem, I like the mood you created there, promising and full of hope - it's just the last sentence that makes it all a little sad... anyway, great work! |

Oh, Bonnie...it was so much easier when they were young. I know, though, that your boys will be just fine because of the love they were raised with. My daughter just moved back, and I guess we did something right, or they wouldn't turn to us when life hurts. Linda |

i look to my son and want him to know that i certainly will always be there for him....this is a wonderful poem that truly conveys not only the magic and love in children...but also the magic and love in parents. |
