(This little poem is about the yearly pre-winter search for a mate in Alaska.......enjoy!!!!)

That time of year is rolling 'round,
And soon will be upon our town,
When Autumn leaves are blowing in the wind...
Then by peculiar circumstance,
The time has come to take a chance,
It's time to find a partner once again...

Now, girls, I'll just explain before
You grab your bag and hit the door,
The facts I'm going to tell you are quite true!
Alaska is a wondrous place,
A beard on darned near every face,
Because our fairer sex is oh so few!

They say the ratio's eight to one,
And, girls, that sounds like loads of fun,
But if you checked it out, you'd realize...
They set their hook and reel you in,
They stake you to their claim, and then
There's no way out when snow begins to fly!

You're looking at, at least, six months,
In which the sky forever dumps
Its big white load to keep you both inside...
There's no place now for you to run,
It's always dark, forget the sun,
It's you and him and no place left to hide!!

You say that you'll just 'drive away',
It's hard to do, but easy to say,
The roads here in the winter are sheer ice!
You'll slip and slide into the ditch,
The driving here is just a *****,
So, if you think you'll leave, YOU BEST THINK TWICE!

I guess what I am trying to say,
Is: "Check it good, before you stay!",
And if you stay, I wish you best of luck...
Especially on those winter nights, with no TV,
No phone, no lights...
And all that's left to do, my friend, is
!!!!!!            !!!!!!
(Use your Imagination!!)

HHHmmmm  no way out for six months you say?  Well well well.....calling travel agent now to check out the possibilities....but think I will need to stop in one other state on the way...just to capture(eerrr .scuse me, I mean visit) a friend. Loved the flow and the format but really liked learning of the reality of such an event in time.

Oh Sunny One, six months of cabin fever you say??  OMG - SIX MONTHS of "You never listen to me"... or, "Honey, get on your snowshoes and go down the river and over two ridges to the Trading Post and get me some feminine hygiene products" ... or, "Why were you looking at the grizzly bear sow when I mentioned Toerag?"... or...well, you get the idea - lol.

Incidently, I really like your poem, and the structure you used.  It really works well.  Way to go, lady.

Ok, putting on the chains (to the tyres) finding a place to hide. It's a good thing them bears sleep through the winter. I'm outta here. Great poem btw.

Hi kethry...I tell you what, you can spend your winter here,(which is our summer), and I will spend my winter there, (which is your summer!!)  Oh, I've got to do this: Bears do NOT hibernate all winter, and a lot of people have been mauled because they thought so!! Actually, they only sleep long if the winter is exceptionally bad, and if they ate enough in the fall before!  I had one in my driveway in the middle of December 2 years ago!   Thanks Kethry!!!!!

Ha Ha, Sunny, you have me thinking on this one. Lets see, is there any man in the world I would want to be locked up with for 6 months straight. Maybe..but then again maybe not, thats a LONG time if you're not having fun. Real cute and humorous. Love it.

I had to read this...the title drew me in!!  I was wondering where in Alaska you live?? I was born up there and moved just 10 months ago to Oregon!!  I liked your poem a lot!!  I lived in Anchorage!!  It doesn't quite fit the poem there but definately does the rest of the state!!

Very cute piece!!

Hi catalinamoon...
That's why I said you'd better check it out before winter starts! Now if you like your partner, then it's just one big honeymoon!!
                    Good to see you!!!

Hi Bridgette...
I'm living in Haines at the moment, but things are subject to change!! I'm not fond of Anchorage....too crowded. It's funny that you moved to Oregon...what part are you in?  I was born and raised in Coos Bay, Oregon!!  So, Alaska and Oregon just switch people back and forth. (I met a guy I went to high school in C.B. with up in Dutch Harbor....small world, isn't it?
Oh, thank you for stopping in!!

Where you trying to convince us it's a bad idea? Coz I'm not so sure anymore
Great one!

Sunny

Loved this one.  But to think - if you really have the "right" one with you, 6 months of *** would be heaven.  You really have quite a few people thinking.

Hi LM...
Oh, it's not a bad idea , just be sure you want to spend a long winter with the one you're with!!! Otherwise, we'll be scraping you off the walls come Spring thaw!!!
            Thank you, my friend!!!

Hi didi....
See? There's a positive and a negative to all of life's situations!! Just depends on your outlook!!  Personally, I'm with you in that 6 months of lovin' with the right person would be like the world's best honeymoon!!!!!!!!!!!!    Thanks, didi
