I have a hearing problem, friends...
It's old age, I suppose.
Whenever harsh words come my way
My ears just seem to close.

I can't hear words behind my back
Or mumbled way down low.
No words that come through gritted teeth
Have anywhere to go.

When they ask "You hear what they say
About you???"....I say no.
They ask me, "Are you deaf or something?"
I answer, "I guess so!"

I haven't heard anything but good about you so maybe you should keep just one ear open and listen in once in a while

More people should have such a problem I think!

Balladeer,
Nice one, when I don't want to hear the conversation I just take out my hearing aid.

Wonderful write. What an attitude. It probably explains why you can smile always. Oh about the age, you are like a fine whine oops wine, a vintage crop.

Ahhh Balladeer ... this is "why" you are the best! What a great read!

I had a grandfather who could hear tiny whispers through the phone line, but could just never quite hear grama yelling full tilt from the kitchen ... "selective hearing" we'd call it! Thanks for the laugh and the memory!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Hey, 'Deer - does this mean you haven't been reading all these TRUE stories I've been writing?  Rats...  Foiled again.  I enjoyed the poem, Mr 'Deer.
