September Day

This September day
catches my surface
in cool breezes
and sheltered sun.

Sheltered sun of sky alive
with full bearded white dove’s
whispering feathers
blooming explosions of cotton.

I have caught fall
looking in my open door
checking my vision
with leaves that fill the air.

I would dance down the street
bare my melting surface
reshape my need and
feel the opening

but fall fills me with the sigh of a mother
whose child has again forgotten
to sweater her silk fragile youth
to protect it from approaching time

so it cools the heat of my expansion now
shrinks this summer shimmering
drinks the froth from laughter
and settles this need to fly.

~Martie~

Well written with wise words in the last two stanzas!  September is a magical month because it is the best of two worlds: experiencing both Summer and Fall.  I love this piece because I love the beginning of Fall - the feeling in the air and the crisp smell to it.  Being a September "baby" I love how you pay tribute to my birth month

Take care,

This is some of the most beautiful poetry on the net, in my opinion. You do us proud!

so many lovely lines - ... but
"drinks the froth from laughter"
wrapped itself around my heart
and would not let go -
so lovely Martie- as always

This is typical of the beauty and depth of your work, but also brings out the child in you and the mature and compasionate adult, and you, and as usual draws the reader's sentiments right into the poem. I do, in truth believe that your work is among the best I've read.

Mark--lots of room in the van...a hug doesn't take up much room.

Bill--thanks for such a nice comment.

Melissa --it is my birth month too..I'm glad the poem pleased you.

Kathleen--What a wonderful compliment, thank you so much!

Bill--Thanks for the heart and the as always...you're sweet.

Kamla--different maybe, but I'm glad for the sigh.

Liz--You always keep me flying with warm words...thank you my dear friend.

Exceptional Martie! The imagery you bring to these words is simply stunning.  I always enjoy reading your poems at least twice before responding ... the flow is always so sweet! Beautiful work!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Martie~

As September sighs into my dawning
I'm caught in refreshing adorn
The coming of the leaves turning
Pirouetting on nature's autumn morn

Thanks for the inspiration in the
beauty of you and your thoughts.
