A Mystery Called Love

What is this mystery called love?
Is there some way to define it?
Words to write the how and why of?
Categories that nicely fit?
Oh how I wish this were the truth.
Life would be, so much more facile.
No longer we'd need be love's sleuth,
With an end to all it's hassles.
Yet, this we know shall never be.
If there were but a way to show,
One's true feelings, for one to see.
In such a way that they would know,
Without a doubt, so clear and sure,
That this love, would always endure.

So simple a thing, it would seem.
So why is it so hard to do?
I try and try, until I scream,
"Please hear me, my love is so true!"
Then I think, why should they believe?
Why should any give me their trust?
So many as I, know decieve,
And the pain of treatment unjust.
So what are we to do, I ask?
When true love begs one to be known?
This mystery, love, can we unmask?
So letting it's real truth be shown?
If I knew the answer to this,
My life, I'd live in joy and bliss.

Hello Steve...

What a wonderful poem this is!! I don't think there really is a way to define love, as it just keeps changing!!
I really enjoyed reading this, and I also enjoyed your website very much..(love the poem in progress...it took me to a mystical place!)  Great site, too!!

Today is a gift....
That is why they call it
'the Present'!

Great poem, and I have to agree with sunny 1--except to say, that from my point of view, we do not define love--love defines US.

Thanks for this thoughtful piece.

Sunny ~ thank you,  and we all know love can
never be defined, I wrote this from
perspective of trying to express true
love with only words, without yet
ever meeting in real, I should have
so indicated in some way... but got
carried away at the time... thanks
for visiting my site also, and I have
finished part III of Lost but haven't
finished the art work to go with it
yet, but hope to soon, and thank you
for your always kind words..Steve B

Serenity ~ as I told Sunny above, I failed to
        indicate my perspective in writing
this piece  and I agree too, about
the defining of love, I was meaning
to point out the difficulty of
        expressing  love with just words....
I thank you  for your words, time,
        and thoughts...    Steve B

J ~ Thanks again for your kind replies, and
this is a sonnet form that Shakespeare
liked to use, except that I changed the
meter to 8 syllables, or tetrameter I
think it is called..There are many forms
of sonnets and variations as there are
with most all forms of poetry... Thanks
    again J   Steve B
