In the space between moments

A cloud of ivory candlelight
paints starlets upon my wall
they drift and dance...so eerily...
then into shadows fall.

Illusions of immunity
exposed by darkling eyes,
for every moment’s vulnerable
to another’s gilded lies.

An embrace of airy phantoms
surrounds this whitewash room
their howls pulse in quickened beat
and within my being loom.

Dreams depart in ashen haze
for faith in life betrayed me
How can I yearn for daybreak’s light
when your hate is all I see?

So here alone I pace the dark
Where our residue still lingers
And hope one day I’ll rinse away
The crimson ‘pon your fingers.

I enjoy a poem that makes you look deeply to find the meaning in the words that are written.

Wonderfully done.

Krista, this is a terrific poem, I loved the way it flowed so nicely and I read it smoothly, the imagery of being in a dark room with candlelight and the way it danced upon the walls was wonderful. I especially loved the second and last stanza's

Ooh... I like the dark atmosphere of this one, and that first verse was great! I loved the images, another great one, my dear.

This is so visually haunting and yet so beautifully presented.  The darkness is intense.  Loved it loved it loved it.
