Contrary

It is most apparent when
I am alone but for silence
and it seems to mirror the
most sullen of moods.

Beside my burden it sits
and broods, hovering like flies
that buzz incessantly until my
patience is stretched taut.

Invading my personal space
and settling in without
a formal invitation,
I swat at it
and again,
encouraging it to go to Hell.
(It makes itself at home there,
the unwelcome houseguest staking claim
to the favorite chair for the duration)

But,
when nothing can surpass happiness
and I need it to remain stagnant,
to freeze-frame it like I would
pause a video at my favorite scene--
It abandons me as it takes flight
to the next moment.
I have no choice but to move with it.

Time--

It is the recalcitrant toddler throwing
its temper tantrum in the supermarket checkout
with five mothers ahead of it--
holding five children throwing temper tantrums.

Ok...it's good to get it out of your system sometimes. I hope it relieves some pressure.  ...chanson~
