A Thousand Words A thousand words upon a page Cannot bestow as much As a simple line of poetry Nor afford so sweet a touch A glittering field of fallen snow Can never mystify As a simple crystal snowflake That stays etched within the eye A universe of stars above Cannot evoke delight As a single candle glowing In the blackness of the night A book is like a treasure chest To open up the mind A poem settles in the soul And stays the rest of time Elizabeth Santos |
