Why do we do this? What is the reason?
Paint the façade conform to the season

What is the difference between truth and a lie?
Why is deceit so much easier to try?

What do we gain when we play the charade,
Wearing attention as if on parade?

Why do we play the "let's pretend" game?
Why can't we be different and not all the same?

Why do we pattern ourselves on templates,
while  seeking difference from lovers, friends, mates?

Why can we see in other's that to self we are blind?
Why do we act like lemmings, destructive to our kind?

Why can't we show inner selves to the crowd?
Vent our emotions, at times screech out loud.

Why do we do this, create the façade,
Is it just cause we're lonely and really quite scared?

but it is the loss that shapes the image,
gathers the flowers weaves the garland."-

Thought provoking questions, indeed.  And using the illustration of "lemmings" evoked some strong imagery as well.

Kethry - great question - I like the way you restated it from so many different slants.  You must have worked on this for quite some time.  I like.

Wow!  I just posted a poem similiar in content and structure.  Kind of creepy actually...Muses must be teaming up.  This one is much better than mine, however.  Great writing.
