Written about our star basketball player who tragically died in a car accident. My final tribute to him.

MY FRIEND

My friend, my friend. I remember the fun.
The days, my friend, out under the sun.
I remember the scent when I'd open your car.
I feel you are near, but realize you're far.
I remember the parties, the laughs and your smile.
I can't accept you're gone, my friend,
I guess I'm in denial.
You were always so funny, so bright and so caring
I can look at your picture,
but I can't stop staring.
I remember the glorious times we were together
like the leaves in the wind, or birds of a feather.
You'd come to the lunch table and cheer the group up
I guess, my friend, you were down on your luck.
I close my eyes, and remember that day
I cry in my bed, I can't move, I just lay.
Now that you're gone, the group feels apart.
Don't worry, my friend, I'll keep you in my heart.
If there's one thing I ask of you, don't go astray.
Help the group, Evan. Get us together, let us stay.
I remember, my friend, we used to cruise around.
I look for you, Evan, but you can't be found.
January 18th, I hate you. Please don't come again.
For that is the day, you sadly took my friend.
I look at the moon, the stars, the sky.
I ask the Lord questions,
including, "Please tell me why"
There is one thing I wish I'd had time to say...
I love you, my friend.
Don't go... please stay.

In memory of Evan Gourley

Fallen so fast,
I missed the ground"

Lil one~~~Im sorry to hear about your friend. I had a friend that was killed cause he was in a gang. But it still bothers me. Almost 2 years ago this happened. And the same thing happens to me when I look at his picture, I dont want to look away from it. You wrote a really good poem. And I bet you he read it already.

Hi there  , I think we should move this poem to a Poetry Forum so everyone can enjoy it! We typically reserve this forum for dealing with feelings, altho' I agree these are feelings, people just don't come looking here for poems, so you may get overlooked here. I'll move it to OP#9, if you have any questions feel free to email me
Thanks!

x-Angel- I'm glad you placed it here in OP#9 - I might have missed it

Lil One- I had a buddy while in the army -- we were stationed on the east coast. He was from the west (oklahome I think) he came home with me on leave because he couldn't afford the fair to his own. I showed him Niagara Falls in winter - and when I got to my next station learned he'd been killed in a car accident - I remember him to this day
Thank you for posting this ~S~

Thank you all so much.
Evan was one of the sweetest, most caring *jocks* ( ) I've ever known. I still don't know why he had to go. I wrote this two years ago, and this is the first place I have posted it. You all have made me realize I should have done it sooner! Thanks to all of you. ((HUGS))

This was one of the saddest poems I've read in a while. You show a lot of feeling in this one.  I myself, lost two high school friends in a car accident the summer before we were to be seniors.  One was a cheerleader, and the other was a fellow baseball player.  I loved them both and I know how you feel.
Thanks for helping me to reflect on some old memories.

ggrn3... I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Thank you for your kind reply, though. It's always good to reflect on the lives of the loved ones we've lost. Don't look at it as being sad, just know that they are smiling down on us from heaven, and that they love us, too.   Thanks again. ((HUGS))
