The Cross Of Wood It wasn't just an old ship it was ancient. Even before it was built it's wood was old. The trees that formed it's beams and planks and mast were much older than the men who cut them down; much older than the men that built the ship; much older than all save the rock and ground upon which they grew. They'd seen the birth of Christ, seen the years He'd spent as a boy, saw him become a man, a prophet, and that's when the first of the trees was cut down; the one that formed the cross upon which He died; the rest of which now stands tall and mighty as the ship's main mast. The ship's wood is worm riddled, old and rotted now at the bottom of the sea; that is, all but the main mast which stands tall and mighty, still strong and ready waiting, waiting, awaiting His return. w. james beard, jr. |

jwesley, Awesome writing here. This was wonderful. He gave so much for us all. You have said it well. Great writing. Lone Wolf Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

Very well written. This reminded me of those passages in the Bible that say that all of nature longs for His return, even if that was not your theme! It boggles the mind, doesn't it, how we humans are here for such a short time, but some things (like wood, stone, etc.) will be around soooooo much longer...great poem! Denise |
