The men I used to call my friends- I fear are dead and gone. It seems they’ve met a common end, And left me all alone... We sowed our oats, and made our marks And lived the way we chose. Now only I can tell their tales But, “Why”? nobody knows. Rip fought his way through Vietnam, But lost his final fight- While driving fast, and drinking hard, One hot September night. Old Elsner played a mean guitar- But somewhere lost all hope... They found him dead there in his room- From loneliness and dope. And Ronnie fell before a gun- Just memory remains... Good times we had, and bad ones, too The same blood in our veins. Yet still I travel down the road- I’m crowding fifty hard... So while I live I’ll sing their songs... I’m just the Dead Men’s bard. If my husband were a poet this could be his tale to tell.....most of his boyhood friends are gone....very sad. Excellent writing, John. Denise |

This is great....it reminds me abit of talking country...a dj where I used to work used to make up his own talking country songs and tell them at work....it was cool I liked this.... ![]() Julie :) |

Gunslinger, another classic from your inkwell, my dear troubadour. Loved this sad tale. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Hey Slinger... I agree with Lady Peri... would make some good song lyrics. Sorry your pals have passed on so early in life. Remember them well... Peace! |
