Children Weep

by

Michael Auguste

It's so often easy for me
To write of love and speak of dreams
And I'll even write a fun poem
Avoid the serious, it seems

Yes, we all want entertainment
Life's too serious as it is
But some things I feel must be said
And so I'd like to tell you this

So many bright-eyed children weep
In fear, in hunger and much more
Their lives are broken, and they, too
Such sadness comes with being poor

Their clothes are secondhand, at best
And other kids so like to pick
Their precious hearts find little rest
There is no doctor when they're sick

Their meal is beans, or rice, what's cheap
A diet that will not help them grow
They're all around us, yet we're blind
These tiny ones with hearts aglow

And we spend so much at Christmas
A celebration it must be
So many gifts and stacked so high
While for some kids there is no tree

We push our plate back, we're too full
We fret when we stain our new shirt
Some children raid dumpsters for food
Because their empty stomachs hurt

How dare we forget such as these
And not give them a chance to dream
Not feed them so that they can sleep
They're not like us, so it would seem

But just like us, each one of them
With eyes that shine and smiles that light
Your heart up like a Chriistmas tree
Keep them in mind, please don't lose sight

At least supply their basic needs
Toys, clothes and some food to eat
A doctor when they come down sick
And in the winter, give them heat

But most of all, give them yourself
Don't hide your heart, please show you care
And let them know their valued much
And of your willingness to share

So blessed we are that we forget
That others struggle just to eat
As we live air conditioned lives
And live in homes with central heat

This poem's not meant to worry you
But only open eyes to see
How precious all these children are
Each child could have been you or me

I thought this was beautiful and a very important message.  Only one thing left out...

I'd like to post the following URL: http://www.compassioninternational.com  for  Compassion International.

If any of you would like to make a difference for one of these children, here is a great place to do it.  This is not group sponsorship.  You have one child and that child has only you.  You are encouraged to write to, share photos with, and pray for your child.

It's an unbelievable experince!!< !signature-->

Michael, this is so touching, and sad, and thought-provoking. I know what you feel, I feel it every day. I see children like this all the time...it's probably why I'm usually depressed.

lady, thanks for the link...we can all help.

Michael,

What a thought provoking poem. It needed to be said. Everyone takes their blessings for granted. Thank you for sharing this.

Very powerful words here Michael, and such a sad truth!
Makes me feel guilty for wanting a new truck and whinning
because I can't get it! Shame on me!
We are very fortunate......very!
And Lady....thanks for the link.... I think I'll check it out.
Eye opener indeed! Thank you.

Micheal, I guess I'm biased but I am always touched by your words. And when it's a topic we all need to be reminded of, even better.
Love,
Dee

Debbie,

Yes, even with our own problems, and many they can often be, it's good to remember how blessed we truly are.

Oh Michael, this touched me in a big way. I have 2 little grandchildren living in a very poor situation, and though I do my best to make it better, it often feels hopeless. I wish this world would care more about the children. Thank God at least my babies have a home and food, but not much else. Long story...Anyway, this is such an important issue, and thank you for the poem.

Amen. It is not the fault of our world's children that they are hungry...it is the fault of our world's adults. Michael, thank you for sharing this candid account of a very real situation.

catalinamoon and Claire,

Unfortunately, we can't depend on the world the care enough about children.  Therefore it is up to each one of us to ensure that these most precious of all are taken care of.  Thanks for the replies and I hope your evenings are good ones.

This is probably one of the most beautiful posts I have read while here at Passions.  Beautiful verse and format....but the message is so much more.  Thank you for sharing this and making us all feel your words instead of just reading them.  I applaud your heart.

Thank you for stopping by.  I agree with you completely and don't think I could've voiced it any better than you just did...."Children are our future...ALL CHILDREN"
I hope your day is a special one, my friend.

You are a wonderful person!!!!!!!!
To take the time to help others stop and remember those less fortunate than ourselves.
It is so hard, but those little lives are so innocent and did not ask to be brought into this world. Thank you for the eye-opener. It was a great way to start my day!!!
hugs and kisses to you.
