A Muse's Toy I stand in awe upon the stage of rhyme Among the ghosts of poets long ago Who stood upon this stage in their own time And penned the most exquisite poems we know They all were poet puppets on a string Suspended by a muse with fickle hands Across the poet stage they’d dance and sing But only as the muse would give commands The greatest poets knew the secret of How to appease the hand that held aloft The golden threads that filled their pens with love And filled their mind with phrases sweet and soft I’m jerked across the stage, a muse’s toy She makes me do a dance I don’t enjoy Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 08-21-2000).] |

Elizabeth you are the only poet I know that can make the lack of inspiration sound so inspiring. I love the suggestion that poets of old who were are our mentors had to struggle too...great writing Elizabeth I always enjoy your work so much! I am sure you and your muse will find a dance you will enjoy...you just can't help yourself. [This message has been edited by ethome (edited 08-21-2000).] |

Cassandra, Glad you enjoyed the poem. Thanks Sudhir, Thank you for being my angel of unknown words. I'm glad you arise 6 hours early so that you can edit my work for me. What would I do without you. So glad you liked the sonnet. ethome, Thank you for your comments. What I was trying to say here is that it's not only a lack of inspiratin, but that the quality of my poetry makes me look like a clown being jerked across the stage. I'm sure great poets had dry spells also, and I'm sure there are thousands of poem no one has ever seen. Thanks Sarah, I'm not sure one can search for inspiration. It somehow comes unexpectedly like a virus. All the sudden it's there. But just keep writing. Thank you Liz |
