Okay, considering the fact that I made almost straight As in English class in high school and during college I shouldn't be writing as carelessly as I do these days. I can't seem to remember that after every pause a comma does not go. I've been going around using and abusing commas with abandon, and am pleading with someone to help me! LOL! They're getting out of control, and I think I need some intervention. Is it going to be necessary for me to just go pay for a class at one of the local colleges in order to bring myself up from the ashes of greater English abilities? |

Hi, I'm K and I'm with the punctuation police... heh Why not post a sample of prose or something so we can look at your comma usage? (Actually, I'm also a hypocrite - I stuff up with punc. all the time. I just like to think I know what I am talking about...) K ...and I have found that a lifetime can be lived in one moment... OOOOOOOOOOOO - I LOVE the ; what I can't HANDLE is when it is abused: eg so he walked slowly; hands in his pockets. BLECH. 'the semi connects two related, complete sentences' However, I don't think it is wise to OVER use it either... I've seen some pieces of prose with semi after semi - looks over-burdened. Semi colon??.... Those babies are used in compound-complex sentences - so you don't abuse the comma so badly... as opposed to ellipses and hyphens...... |
