As the world keeps getting smaller, You would think that we would learn Not to bump into each other Every time we make a turn. Yet the spaces that were once The scenes of leisured promenades Are buzzing with the friction Of rotating roller blades. And the sandy dunes that used to lie Serene along the briny shore Are packed with condominiums And every year we build ten more. Libraries in the city, Not mention parks and zoos Are as crowded as a troopship On a mass invasion cruise. Where have all these people come from? I confess that I don't know. But why can't we ask some of them To find somewhere else to go, Get them off the lane I'm using, Get their rear ends off the seat That I prefer to sit in In the restaurant where I eat, Keep them out of check-out lines And keep the woods and beaches free Of all of them and what they do That interferes with me. A planet that's replete wih folk, Where vulgar fools are rife, Is a place that, I've discovered, Adds inconvenience to my life. |
