A Man of Few Words

He is a quiet man of thought
Not eager to divulge in speech
The inner peace within his mind
The splendid thought within his reach

For words confuse a precious thought
Assume a posture of define
But he would rather keep to self
And sip the pleasure of the wine

Reflection needs a place to dwell
A solitude to wander free
And conversation takes away
The way to simply think and be

He is a man of silent days
He claims that he is just recluse
But I would wager that his hours
Reap rewards of better use

Being the quiet type myself, I can totally relate to this. Very well written, Elizabeth!

I'm trying to breakout of my own silent cell and communicate to others that I should know well.  Your advice is sound, but not easily acomplished. Thanks for the push, your verse so sweet with it's message so clear has scored a bullseye with me.
Thanks, Dennis :^)

"For words confuse a precious thought..."

This line reminded me of another from THE LITTLE PRINCE-- "words are the source of misunderstanding..."--a favorite of mine.

I read everything that you post, Elizabeth,
and if I don't reply more often, it is only
because I am always left speechless.  A great admirer of yours.

Elizabeth, my friend~

What a superb pen.
I'm also a relatively quiet person,
enjoying observing the actions of others.
Your perceptions of the quiet man
are wonderfully accurate.

'Reflection needs a place to dwell
A solitude to wander free
And conversation takes away
The way to simply think and be'
EXACTLY !

You know, this could have been a poem for my father.  In reading this I could see him sitting silently and remember as a child how I always wondered what was going through his mind.  Wonderful poem, Liz.  Thank you.

Thank you, dear poets, for your lovely comments. I, too, am quiet, but my thoughts are not that profound, usually dreams of sorts.

I have to say, being a very quiet person, people so often manage to mistake silent thought and acute observation for a vacancy of spirit. Anyway, this is a beautiful poem, another close to my heart!

Love and hugs,
Lizzie

Liz,

Once again you've outdone yourself.  This is wonderful.  I'm also a quiet person with few words and I can certainly relate very well to this poem.  Thanks for sharing it.
