St. Mary’s Orchard

He is postured at an angle to imperfect rows,
brushing broad strokes on a blue background,
his face in the shadow of an old panama,
blossoming bowed pear trees patiently await
the arrival of summer’s heavy fruit.

I watch as he first paints clouds in his sky,
moving in layers towards the foreground,
finally the trees and wild mustard
are captured in a slight breeze.

It occurs to me how he is like these trees,
willowy but gnarled and twisted by time,
the bark broken into rough lines,
yet the strength of life still streams.

A gust sends his hat sailing to the ground,
he reaches for it just as it moves away,
I wait for the hat to blow to my feet,
then hand the hat to blue eyes full of mirth.

With one crooked finger he motions to me,
we both admire his work silently,
then with a quick smile and nod
he hands the still-wet painting to me.

Dumbfounded, I turn to decline,
but he has taken his easel and paints,
and disappeared down an aisle of trees,
I’m left holding his smile in my hands.

Corinne,
To me it's a little Van Goah, a little whimsey, a little fantasy and a lovely little poem. *L* Sy

Corinne, A lovely little tale, (if not a tale, then some really strange stuff happens in your life)

I must admit you rule, honey, its so charming.

Are you the painter proseing a picture, or the poet painting a poem?

Thank you, Denise, Seymour, James, Devina and Martie!

And, of course, thank you, Parker, where ever did you find that cute animated graphic?

I live in a place that once was nothing but cattle and pear orchards. Here and there, signs of these orchards were preserved, and cattle still roam the hills, for now.

Several times a year, a group of painters appears in these groves to paint them, bare in winter, blossoming in spring and full of fruit in the summer.  I always stop and watch for a while if I happen to see them.

But no, Parker, this story didn't actually happen, however, I do have a rather strange tale about a man and a beautiful bay colored horse, I'll have to see if I can conjure up some words to describe it!

I think you have taken a set of images and finely crafted a wonderful poem, Corinne. Well done!

Corinne~
I think your 'art' is as lovely
as that painted canvas.
Terrific imagery.

Thank you Severn, Parker, Serenity and Marge!

Parker my dear,

The cows and horses in these hills
are temporary images life instills,
soon houses will occupy all open spaces
replacing the sounds of animals with human faces.

The beaches are from my life as a girl,
summers spent watching blue and white water curl,
and now the rest is left to unfurl,
where to next, I wonder?
