It Was All So Simple

it was all so simple back then
you picked up the telephone
and the operator asked for a number
then asked how the children were
and if the little one got over the flu

you had all the numbers memorized
in your head
of all your family and friends -
all those four digit numbers

then the numbers turned to seven
then to eleven

your a fool if you didn't memorize
your social security number
and it helped to know your bank account number, also
and your license plate number

you had to memorize your ATM pin number
and always keep your driver's license number
and your health insurance policy number handy
at all times

then you had to know your associate's fax numbers
and their cell phone numbers
then you had to know their e-mail addresses
and make sure you put these on your buddy list,
your data base and your on-line address book
you had to know their web site addresses
and of course their ICQ numbers

your calling card number and its pin
the pin to your debit card
your password to get on line
your password to your personal filing cabinet
your screen name and password to that chat room
your other screen name and password to that forum
and to all the forums, chat rooms
and personal dating services you signed up for

and if you forget any of the above numbers,
screen names, pins, or passwords
you MUST remember your mother's maiden name
or maybe your dog's nickname
or some other fact that only you know

this is progress
this is simplification
this is organization

and this is driving me insane

LOL~ Take heart Liz, that's why we have computers to write all these things down on, and then file the discs that they're saved on and...hahaha... old fashioned pen and paper and a book will do!  Don't ya just love technology?  hehe    Good one!

Calling card`s,fax numbers,pin numbers.....Dang,where does it end?
I once read that we were going to do away with all of the numbers as well as money as we know it today.
Im hoping that all I had read would never happen, but it look`s like that will be one for today`s generation.
Still a bit scary to me.
This is one for me to give alot of thought to.
Thank you Liz(I hope you don`t mind me addressing you by your first name?
Once again,Thank you

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.
And the begining of a new one.

Elizabeth, my friend~
You are a genius !
I think it's a little like driving
a stick-shift ...
when an automatic is available !

Shucks, I think my high school
math teacher is deceased ...
how she would have delighted in
seeing me struggle with all those numbers!
MS. BETTY FOARD-wherever you are
I hear you laughing !

Great free-verse
with a purpose !

LOL - I remember when my house didn't even have a number.... and when my mother accidentally dropped her shopping list into the outgoing mail at the post office and found it in the mailbox at home the next day...
