BEHIND THE MASQUES Of Comedy, of Tragedy, Who smiles that I am crying? Who unravels life's mystery Upon this day of dying? Forsworn to love by blinded Fate, Who there would take my hand? If all but love seems to me hate, Who dare would understand? Chalking up to experience, Ever christened belief. Walking the preeminence That brought me to such grief. Dare I take a stand on virtue? Virtue, if mine alone. Once again I'd find I've hurt you, My sin ‘er to atone. Yet Time still flies by weary eyes With wings none else can see. As Death, gawking, stalking, walking Now comes ‘tween you and me. A weighted soul, a once read scroll, Now tossed unto my end. I blow a kiss from the abyss To my one, my only friend. The only arms to cradle me, A child of thirty-two. The only eyes to see in me The man no one else knew. The only reason hope ‘er stood Within this shadowed life. By lover's verse, misunderstood, Or by dream alone called wife. The only heart opened to me I never found untrue. The only to offer dreams for me Wrapped in soft shades of blue. A hand I'll hold through eternity, Be it falling or flying. Of Comedy, of Tragedy, Who lives that I am dying? Michael Anderson < !signature--> It's the little things you take for granted, That'll mean the most to you when they're gone. [This message has been edited by Michael (edited 02-17-2000).] |

Michael, somehow right now the song "Blowing in the wind" is playing in my head after reading this, boy I almost feel crazy never has that happened to me before. You've sparked a new element in me with your poetry. What I really need to say is, my prayers are with you, and in time the answers will grace your wonderful being with happiness. |

Amazed at how these words flow from within you, Michael. For some time now, I've admired your writing, and it never falters. You are able to express so elloquently and perfectly emotions which run through your veins, regardless of their placement on the "happy-meter". Excellent poem. You make beautiful of the most aching pains. |

You do bring beauty to the most painful passages, Michael. This poem is full of both beauty and pain and the mixture is intoxicating. I so enjoy your work. Claire |

It is said that these are the times when we learn by leaps and bounds and the rest of the time, we never the ground. Keep pouring it out, Michael, this is how we do it. Corinne |

NOOOOOOOO! No more MAAAAAAASQUES! ![]() Sorry, this begged a release of some tension ... just my pitiful attempt at cheering you. Michael, I realize that there is only one person who can change the way you are feeling right now -- so I won't even try. But please do remember that you have a multitude of shoulders to cry on, and that we all enjoy your poetry immensely be it cheery or otherwise ... hugs and strength to you. ![]() --Kess< !signature--> Full fathom five thy father lies, Of his bones are coral made, Those are pearls that were his eyes; Nothing of him that doth fade But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange... --William Shakespeare, from The Tempest [This message has been edited by Skyfyre (edited 02-17-2000).] |

Michael...your words speak of your pain....we all wear masks from time to time to get us by our worst times. But please don't loose the special person that is you in that disguise somewhere. Brilliant, but of so sad is this poem ![]() |

Walt, thanks for reading, and of course it made no sense whatsoever...LOL Wizzard, not to worry - there's only one direction to look to from here. Gloria, I'm glad my poetry moves something within you...I feel as if I'm "blowing in the wind" right now - I think I missed my destination. January Flowers, that's quite a compliment you've paid me. My sincerest thanks. And I think someone stole my happy meter - got one I can borrow? Corinne, it's funny we learn by necessity instead of desire after a certain age. Rarely do we like the instructor either. Kess, thanks for the ((HUG)) - I needed one. And you got a smile out of me with your reply, too. ![]() Devina, I can think of no better shoulder to cry on than yours. But you'd get sick of all my blabbering and whining real quick...LOL SEA, I can't wait till I am writing about something happier. Hopefully soon. Ruth, I have too many friends me thinks that would not allow the real me hide too long, anywhere. Thank you for your genuine concern. Everyone else, thank you for your kind replies. ![]() Michael |

I have to agree with many of the above...so much beauty and so much pain. There is always hope even if it is far away. James |

Whenever I read one of your sad serenades, I'm reminded of a comment once made by a very special mutual friend of yours and mine - something about how you always manage to write a bit of hope into the saddest of your poetry... You do that, my friend... The better I get to know you, the more I see it - both in your poetry, and in your heart... ![]() |
