Into My Pillow

Raindrops tap loudly on the rooftop
winds rattle my window panes
Lightening flashes across the sky
suddenly illuminating
thousands of sad memories
I hope to forget.

For a moment I thought I saw you
peering lovingly at me from the doorway,
but as the next bolt of lightening
re-illuminated the room
I realized I had imagined it
And then, there was only the rain
and the lonely desperate sounds of my weeping
With my face pressed hard
into my pillow.

I'm not usually one to write sad or depressing words...but some circumstances and occasions do warrant an occasional tear of grief.  Sometimes I find that writing about things, whether something that happened in my life or in the life of a friend or even a casual acquaintance can sometimes help others to understand their grief, or maybe just help to realize we are all just human.   Anyway, enough rambling.  I hope you all enjoy.

Chris, you've brought this scene to life, and wonderfully so.

Chris, this is very sad. I must admit a thunderstorm makes me feel this way too. I loved the poem, thanks for sharing it.

This is very touching Chris. I too have been there, and I think you've said it very well.

"Sometimes I find that writing about things, whether something that happened in my life or in the life of a friend or even a casual acquaintance can sometimes help others to understand their grief, or maybe just help to realize we are all just human. "

This is one of the greatest benefits of exercising our skills and talents as writers, it provides such an outlet for us. I will look forward to reading more of your work.

This is the first of your work I have had the privalage of reading. It is very heart felt and I enjoyed it. Though pain is something we don't like to write about, it is a fact of life. Write it tends to purge the pain from our souls. It does not have to be a personal experience piece for us to elimate that pain we see around us everyday. Well written, I hope to read more of you in the future.

Chris~
First of all, I like this.
Next ... could this be one of those
'Dedication' things ?  Yeah, I think so.

I felt the dampness on the pillow
as the 'outside' storm subsided.

this is a nice poem, all the memories of the ones you love, seem to creep up on you.  I know that feeling, the smell of their cologne, or the image as you sit and think of them.  Very strong.  Keep up the words...Much love, One love, PEACE
