Impishly you gather the pieces, sequestering them to a far off land, stealing from my heart as it unleashes a trusting, moral love on command. Attracted to that which you do not possess from the heirlooms of family branches, you greedily seek out a soul to undress, not considering harmful circumstances. Throbbing, aching ~ this need within you, only bettering yourself second-hand. The prey I became without knowing untrue were the motives behind your demands. Two thousand twenty-one days into this mess do I finally have strength to break free and have courage enough to sadly confess ~ "I'm just a shell of my used-to-be". Empty and cold in this hollow self, am I, without all the pieces which once made me whole. But I'm fighting and learning that you cannot deny me the pieces you selfishly stole. So journey, do I, to this far off place as collector of things once familiar. In your presence I'll retrieve bits of me, and erase memories of you, my venomous swindler. |

Such courage does not come easily it comes at a very dear price, but I applaud your strength and hope, although simple words won't suffice. All those shards scattered here and there, I gather you feel you must re-collect, were always there lost inside of you, so rebuild with love and resurrect. Corinne |

This is a very powerful piece and one which I can relate to very easily....I sometimes wonder if we ever find all those pieces lost in the shuffle....yes, we can rebuild our lives, but are we ever the same? I'm not sure, but I do like this poem ![]() |

Seymour: Thank you very much! Corinne: Your words are so very wise. It does take a lot of courage to "take back" an identity, even if it was with you all the while. Thanks for your poetic reply. Hoot Owl: Too common a problem, this is, don't you agree? Glad you liked the poem. James: "Powerful". One can receive no greater compliment on poetry. Thanks! |

Thanks a bunch for the comments on this piece. With each "exerpt" from my battle, I feel I gain strength in my fight. The fight to move forward away from what once was a source of such pain. Thank you, Balladeer, for the vote of encouragement. Just to know there are some "out there" who understand seems to help in this process. ![]() |
