(this is a rewrite of a poem posted some time ago)

I yearn to Whisper Yes

I yearn to whisper yes to you
under a tree somewhere in the old south,
a willow tree perhaps
who’s tears drift slowly, cleanly
layering my hair in green,
and you with scarlet eyes, sunset lit
would sing to me
a deep and true melody
that lingers like a sigh against my hair
in touching tribute to the curve that bares
the loving night.

We would be surrounded in sound,
a cicada concert
with our whispering breath,
then stars would dim
as moonlight opened soft
against the alabaster thigh
of forever.

And this memory
of a day that never was
will summon me on fragrant nights
noisy with other sounds
to weep this unspent passion
that yearns for you,
to close you into my warmth,
to whisper yes
somewhere under a tree
in the old south.

Absolutely beautiful.  It is an amazing, colorful portrait of a romantic notion that we would all love to experience.  Thank you so much for sharing it.

Martie, this is I think one of my favorites of yours now.

"that yearns for you,
to close you into my warmth,"

there is something about those two lines that kind of excite me just a little too much. Great work.

Martie...your word choices in this are excellent. SOme of the lines others have pointed out caught my attention right of the bat and made me say to myself"Gee...I wish I'd written that"
Everything in this piece works....it's like a beautiful patchwork quilt all tied together to create a masterpiece. Well done
